William Stafford, 1914-1993
Here's another reason why the National Book Award can't be taken seriously. Stafford got the National Book Award for Poetry back in 1963. How anyone can take his uninspired blathering seriously is, well, hard to comprehend.
The National Book Award is always given to mediocrities who are perceived by their peers (the selection committee) as non-threatening.
