“I believe that, if you have a talent, you should
treat your talent with the highest reverence and love. Don’t murder your gift
through competitiveness, ambition, narcissism, insecurity, addiction, or
mediocrity. Frankly—don’t do what I did. Just get serious, get down to it and
write something, for heaven’s sake write something. Remember, I have your
driver’s license nailed to a wall in my basement and I’ll be checking up on
you."
