“At the ashram I saw a lot
of people who had been living in spiritual communes for 20 or even 30 years.
And while with some of them, I felt like they were meant to be contemplatives….
I mean, they probably should be living here alone.
"But, with other people, I got the strong sensation that they were kind of hiding out
from the rest of the world. Including the bill collectors and children, the
ex-wives and ex-husbands. And I wanted to do that, too. “
