“I can honestly say that there are few inspirational quotations that give me more hope than this one. It’s as if Mr. Hubbard (husband to Old Mother H. maybe?) sat down and wrote these lines to fit me personally.

“Just now I was checking in the mirror for scars, and I found the tiny scar from where I had my nose job ten years ago (I didn’t always have this cure little Irish-looking nose) and found it, barely visible, next to my right nostril. 

“Then, of course, I have a few scars from where they lasered off the varicose veins—not to mention the scars from my tummy-tuck (one of my editors paid for this) and my appendix removal.

“Also, I have a few scars left from when they lasered off the tattoo of our golden retriever (originally it was inked with brown henna on my shoulder blade, and then later tattooed—for real—until I broke up with that bastard poet—I think his name was Hummer or some such—and he kept the dog!)

"And getting that tattoo hurt like hell....

"Anyway, I have lots of scars and feel particularly close to E.H. for this insight on faith.”
